My gardening journey started on the other side of the Atlantic in the beautiful state of Maine, where temperatures regularly dip to -24C and deer administer a non-negotiable Chelsea Chop. I completed the Master Gardener training program at the University of Maine in 2014 and aside from nurturing my own beds of edibles and ornamentals, served as garden advisor to a local secondary school and logged many hours volunteering at the organic Orono Community Garden for the benefit of local senior citizens.
Upon moving to Galway in 2017, I pondered my new horticultural landscape and sought out kindred spirits, soon finding joy and purpose overseeing the school garden at Scoil Chroí Íosa (claiming the Tidy Towns Overall School Garden Award in 2021) and lending expertise to various projects and gardens around town.
In April 2021 I was brought aboard the amazing Circle of Life Garden to oversee design as well as the new volunteer crew. Revitalising the original beds and creating new borders has proven a stimulating challenge and I love chatting with locals and tourists alike about everything from slug-resistant hostas to the challenges of coastal gardening. I also work with clients to help them realise their own garden goals big and small, with a particular focus on supporting biodiversity and meeting the challenges of a changing climate. Closer to home, I tend bees and a motley crew of hens alongside my two children and husband just outside Moycullen village.
